Frustrated Lewis Pairs Based on Carbon...Carbon+ Tetrel Bonds: A DFT Study

Maria de las Nieves Pina et al.

Summary: This manuscript analyzes the ability of Triangulenium (TA(+)) compounds to form Frustrated Lewis Pairs (FLPs) with N-HeteroCycle Carbenes (NHCs) at the theoretical level, and characterizes the carbon...carbon(+) tetrel bonds involved. The results are expected to be useful for the formation of FLPs and to expand the current knowledge of carbon...carbon(+) bonds in synthetic chemistry and catalysis.

A Quantitative Molecular Orbital Perspective of the Chalcogen Bond

Lucas Azevedo Santos et al.

Summary: Quantum chemically analyzed the structure and stability of chalcogen-bonded model complexes D(2)Ch...A(-), revealing a significant covalent character in chalcogen bonds due to strong HOMO-LUMO interactions; these interactions not only contribute significantly to bond strength, but also induce structural distortions and charge transfer from A(-) to D(2)Ch.

On the Importance of σ-Hole Interactions in Crystal Structures

Antonio Frontera et al.

Summary: Main group elements can act as both Lewis acids and bases in noncovalent interactions, presenting a dual character. These emerging NCIs involving sigma-hole interactions show different features when moving along the same group or row of the periodic table.

Metalloid Chalcogen-pnictogen σ-hole bonding competition in stibanyl telluranes

Rosa M. Gomila et al.

Summary: This study investigates the peculiar behavior of Sb-Te bonds in solid state structures, analyzing the interactions between Te and Sb atoms. Through computational calculations, it is determined that Te atoms act as sigma-hole donors and Sb atoms act as electron density donors in the Sb-Te contacts.

Selenium chalcogen bonds are involved in protein-carbohydrate recognition: a combined PDB and theoretical study

Jose A. Fernandez Riveras et al.

Summary: This manuscript investigates the ability of selenium carbohydrates to undergo chalcogen bonding interactions with protein residues. The study utilizes theoretical models and analysis tools to characterize and describe these interactions. The results are expected to expand the understanding of biological chalcogen bonding and increase visibility of this interaction within the carbohydrate chemistry community.

Biological halogen bonds in protein-ligand complexes: a combined QTAIM and NCIPlot study in four representative cases

Antonio Frontera et al.

Summary: In this study, a comprehensive analysis was conducted on four PDB structures showing halogen bonding (HaB) interactions, with the sigma-hole acceptor mainly corresponding to O atoms from the protein backbone or amino-acid side chains. RI-MP2/def2-TZVP study was performed to evaluate the energetics of HaB, while QTAIM, NCIPlot, and MEP were used to characterize and rationalize the interactions.

A theoretical insight into the formation of chalcogen bonding (ChB) interactions involving coordinated DMSO molecules as σ-hole donors and benzoate groups as σ-hole acceptors in a dinuclear copper(ii) complex

Snehasish Thakur et al.

Summary: A dimeric copper(ii) complex was synthesized and characterized using standard spectroscopic methods and X-ray analysis. Important forces governing the X-ray packing in the solid state were found to be C-H and π-π stacking interactions, along with the formation of chalcogen bonding interactions. The effect of Cu coordination of DMSO on sigma holes intensity was studied using MEP surface analysis.
