Al2O3 ALD films grown using TMA plus rare isotope 2H216O and 1H218O precures

S. N. Kinnunen et al.

Summary: This work investigated hydrogen and oxygen migration and exchange reactions in atomic layer deposited Al2O3 thin films, showing that films deposited at low temperatures can contain high hydrogen content but higher temperatures and longer purge lengths can decrease hydrogen and carbon concentrations significantly. Different isotopes of hydrogen and oxygen were used to track their movement in films, with findings indicating H-1/H-2 exchange reactions occur even at room temperature with high hydrogen concentrations while oxygen atoms do not notably migrate.

Siliconization elimination for SiC coated C/C composites by a pyrolytic carbon coating and the consequent improvement of the mechanical property and oxidation resistances

Tao Li et al.

Summary: The use of a pyrolytic carbon (PyC) coating prior to the fabrication of a silicon carbide (SiC) coating on carbon/carbon (C/C) composites helps to mitigate the negative effects of siliconization erosion, leading to an increase in flexural strength retention and better oxidation resistance. The presence of PyC coating allows for the fabrication of a compact SiC coating without silicon phase, resulting in improved performance under dynamic and static oxidation conditions at different temperatures.
