Carbonized rice husk coated solar absorber for clean water generation from seawater with a solar still

Wong Min Jin Karen et al.

Summary: This study successfully generated clean water from seawater using carbonized rice husk coated melamine sponge as a solar absorber. The efficient heat absorption and seawater transportation properties of carbonized rice husk and melamine sponge contributed to the high performance of the system. Under direct solar radiation, clean water could be continuously produced for about 4 hours, with salinity and pH values meeting the standards for drinkable water.

Combining carbonized sawdust beds with preheating water design for efficient solar steam generation

Dongxu Wu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a preheating chamber structure for high-efficiency solar steam generation using carbonized sawdust beds as solar absorbers. The effects of bed porosity on water transportation, heat transfer, and evaporation performance were investigated, showing that a porosity of 76% can achieve maximum evaporation efficiency. Additionally, adjusting the water supply area can coordinate efficiency and steam temperature under 3-sun irradiation.
