Physical, structural, mechanical, and radiation shielding properties of the PbO-B2O3-Bi2O3-ZnO glass system

Jamila S. Alzahrani et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of replacing PbO with Bi2O3 on the physical, mechanical, and radiation shielding properties of a PbO-B2O3-ZnO glass system. The results showed that increasing the doping concentration of Bi2O3 led to decreased mass density and mechanical parameters, while the radiation shielding parameters were dependent on the glass chemical content. The PBBZ glass samples demonstrated excellent shielding capabilities and could potentially replace existing shields in radiation protection applications.
