Fabrication and characterization of non-foamed and foamed geopolymers from industrial waste clays

M. F. Zawrah et al.

Summary: By recycling waste clays, non-foamed and foamed geopolymers were successfully prepared. Geopolymers made from calcined Feeder's waste-clay exhibited the best compressive strength, while geopolymers made from a mixture of 50% calcined Feeder's waste-clay and 50% calcined Cyclone's waste-clay also showed good compressive strength. Additionally, foamed geopolymer with suitable compressive strength was prepared from calcined Cyclone's waste-clay, showing higher apparent porosity and lower bulk density than non-foamed geopolymers.

Summary: This study investigates the fabrication of highly porous ceramic foams using a geopolymer mixture and replica technique, and evaluates the influence of mixture viscosity on foam structure and properties. The optimal viscosity for the geopolymer mixture ranges between 9 and 15 Pa.s, producing ceramic foams with improved performance.

Role of Sintering Temperature in Production of Nepheline Ceramics-Based Geopolymer with Addition of Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene

Romisuhani Ahmad et al.

Summary: The main goal of developing ceramic materials using the geopolymer method is to reduce reliance on high sintering temperatures. By incorporating ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) as a binder, the physical and microstructural properties of nepheline ceramics based on geopolymers were enhanced. The study demonstrates that sintering temperatures significantly impact the properties of the materials, with the highest flexural strength achieved at 1200 degrees Celsius.
