Effect of TiO2and 11 minor elements on the reactivity of ground-granulated blast-furnace slag in blended cements

Simon Blotevogel et al.

Summary: Ground-granulated blast-furnace slags (GGBS) are glasses mostly composed of the CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 system, widely used as supplementary cementitious materials. This study found that the reactivity of GGBS can be affected by the content of certain minor elements, such as Ti, which significantly reduced compressive strength, and network modifiers like Ba, Cs, K, and Sr, which positively correlated with GGBS reactivity. The effects of these elements can be estimated by their concentration and weighted field strength.

Effects of Saturation Levels on the Ultrasonic Pulse Velocities and Mechanical Properties of Concrete

Ma. Doreen Esplana Candelaria et al.

Summary: The research found that the saturation level of concrete affects the velocities of ultrasonic waves and mechanical properties of concrete, with the relationship between P-wave velocity and compressive strength being highly sensitive to saturation condition. In contrast, S-wave velocity is closely correlated with compressive strength but less sensitive to water saturation level. The water saturation condition has little effect on the relationship between dynamic and elastic moduli of elasticity of concrete studied in this research.

Summary: This study evaluates the properties of four alkali-activated materials under different water content and temperature conditions, comparing them to ordinary Portland cement. The results show that alkali-activated materials are as reliable as Portland cement in precasting and in situ concreting conditions.

Evolution of the microstructure of unconsolidated geopolymers by thermoporometry

Quang Hung Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the evolution of pore size distribution in fresh unconsolidated geopolymer paste using a new method, revealing that pores gradually refine and mesoporous volume decreases within the first week. This may be attributed to the active condensation of the geopolymer network. The results complement existing data on the structural evolution of geopolymers with time.
