Genome-wide identification of novel long non-coding RNAs and their possible roles in hypoxic zebrafish brain

Bodhisattwa Banerjee et al.

Summary: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a crucial role in regulating neuronal development and differentiation pathways in the zebrafish brain regions under hypoxia. Differential expression of certain lncRNAs and mRNAs under hypoxia suggests their potential involvement in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Alzheimer's disease as a chronic maladaptive polyamine stress response

Baruh Polis et al.

Summary: Polyamines are nitrogen-rich polycationic molecules with diverse evolutionary-conserved functions, playing pleiotropic, adaptive, and pathogenic roles in age-related neurodegenerative diseases. A universal short-term polyamine stress response is beneficial for survival but becomes detrimental following chronic stimuli, particularly in aging organisms. Fine-tuning arginase activity with natural inhibitors may be a novel treatment strategy for AD-related dementia.
