Plastic film mulching affects N2O emission and ammonia oxidizers in drip irrigated potato soil in northwest China

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different mulching films on soil ammonia-oxidizing bacteria and archaea, as well as their impact on N2O emissions. Findings revealed that degradable film mulching increased AOB abundance and diversity while reducing N2O emissions. AOA were found to be more sensitive to polyethylene mulching film.

Summary: Paddy soils have higher soil organic C and total N contents compared to upland soils, which is influenced by climatic and soil physico-chemical factors. The greater organic C and N stocks in paddy soils are attributed to factors such as the higher input of organic C from rice, slower decomposition under anoxic conditions, and the importance of sesquioxides in biochemical stabilization of soil organic matter.
