Isolation and Characterization of Magnetic Oil Palm Empty Fruits Bunch Cellulose Nanofiber Composite as a Bio-Sorbent for Cu(II) and Cr(VI) Removal

Aina Mardhia Khalid et al.

Summary: In this study, a magnetic oil palm empty fruits bunch cellulose nanofiber (M-OPEFB-CNF) composite was isolated using sol-gel method and proved to be an effective biosorbent for removing Cu(II) and Cr(VI) from aqueous solutions. The Freundlich equation better described the adsorption process, and the pseudo-second-order kinetics model was found to be more suitable for describing the adsorption kinetics. The findings suggest the potential of M-OPEFB-CNF composite as a biosorbent for heavy metal removal.
