Chitosan/polydopamine layer by layer self-assembled silk fibroin nanofibers for biomedical applications

Xiao Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, chitosan (CS) and polydopamine (PDA) were introduced into electrospun nanofibrous SF mats through layer-by-layer self-assembly (LBL) to enhance antibacterial ability and cytocompatibility. With the successful deposition confirmed, the mats showed increased tensile modulus and better hydrophilicity performance. Moreover, the structured mats exhibited significantly improved antibacterial ability and biocompatibility, showcasing the potential for expanded biomedical applications of SF.

Manufacture of β-chitin nano- and microparticles from jumbo squid pen (Dosidicus gigas) and evaluation of their effect on mechanical properties and water vapour permeability of polyvinyl alcohol/chitosan films

Llanquileo Luis et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of beta-chitin micro- and nanoparticles derived from jumbo squid pens on the water vapor permeability of PVA/CS films. Addition of NPs significantly increased tensile strength and elongation percentage of the films, while WVP values did not change significantly among different PVA/CS proportions but were significantly lower in the second period.
