Life cycle analysis of GHG emissions from the building retrofitting: The case of a Norwegian office building

Mehrdad Rabani et al.

Summary: This paper conducted a life cycle assessment (LCA) on different building retrofitting scenarios for a typical office building in Norway, finding that net total emissions could be reduced up to 52% through retrofit measures. The study compared emissions from operational energy use in reference and optimized building energy models, showing that operational energy use accounted for 77% in the reference case and 43-46% in retrofitting scenarios. The most embodied stages of emissions in the retrofitting process were found to be the product stage, transport to construction site, and end-of-life service.

The effect of building retrofit measures on CO2 emission reduction - A case study with US medium office buildings

Yingli Lou et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the impact of building retrofit measures on CO2 emissions reduction in different locations, finding that the effects of improving lighting and equipment efficiency on emission reduction are significantly influenced by climate, and the most energy-efficient measure may not necessarily be the most effective emission reduction measure.

Dynamic scenario simulations of carbon emission peak in China's city-scale urban residential building sector through 2050

Tengfei Huo et al.

Summary: This study developed an integrated dynamic simulation model to explore the uncertainties of future trajectory of urban residential building carbon emissions (URBCE) using scenario analysis and Monte Carlo simulation. Results showed substantial disparities among different building end-uses in mitigating URBCE.

Will the urbanization process influence the peak of carbon emissions in the building sector? A dynamic scenario simulation

Tengfei Huo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of urbanization on China's carbon emissions from buildings through a comprehensive framework and dynamic simulation model. It predicts the peak emissions and trajectories of different building sectors, and finds that rural-urban migration plays a significant role in influencing the peaking time and emission peaks. This research provides valuable insights for the government in formulating effective strategies to achieve carbon peaking and neutrality goals.

An assessment of power fl exibility from commercial building cooling systems in the United States *

Sen Huang et al.

Summary: This paper provides a comprehensive analysis and assessment of power flexibility from HVAC loads in U.S. commercial buildings. It reveals that cooling loads in commercial buildings offer more flexibility for increasing power consumption than for decreasing it, with potential for a significant increase and decrease in power consumption on peak summer days.
