Elevation of Proinflammatory Cytokine HMGB1 in the Synovial Fluid of Patients With Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease and Correlation With IL-6

Nobuhiro Kamiya et al.

Summary: In patients with Legg-Calve-Perthes disease (LCPD), HMGB1 protein levels were significantly elevated in the synovial fluid compared to controls, and highly correlated with IL-6 levels. This suggests that proinflammatory cytokines, including HMGB1, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), and IL-1 beta, play a significant role in the pathogenesis of LCPD in conjunction with IL-6.
