Enhanced mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress in the mammary gland of cows with clinical ketosis

Yuxiang Song et al.

Summary: Extensive mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress were observed in the mammary gland of clinically ketotic cows in the present study. The reduced milk yield in cows with ketosis is partially attributed to enhanced oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysregulation in the mammary gland.

Changes in Saliva Analytes in Dairy Cows during Peripartum: A Pilot Study

Maria D. Contreras-Aguilar et al.

Summary: The study evaluated changes in 26 salivary analytes in healthy dairy cows during the peripartum period, finding significant variations in analytes related to stress, inflammation, and metabolism. Some salivary analytes could potentially serve as biomarkers for monitoring the health and welfare of dairy cows.

Oxytocin in bovine saliva: validation of two assays and changes in parturition and at weaning

Marina Lopez-Arjona et al.

Summary: New assays for measuring oxytocin in bovine saliva were developed and validated in this study. Results showed an increase in oxytocin concentrations on the day of parturition in cows, while a decrease was observed in calves 4 days after grouping. These findings suggest that oxytocin levels in bovine saliva can vary in different physiological or productive situations.

Effect of seasonal thermal stress on oxidative status, immune response and stress hormones of lactating dairy cows

Han Li et al.

Summary: This study found that climatic conditions under different temperature-humidity index levels may induce varying degrees of oxidative stress, inflammation response, and stress hormone imbalances in lactating dairy cows.
