Alcohol use and risk factors for self-harm behavior in Spanish adolescents

Matilde Bousono et al.

Summary: This study analyzed and compared the Spanish sub-samples of two studies to determine the prevalence, patterns, and factors associated with self-harm behaviors. It found that males more often self-injure through self-inflicted blows and burns, while young females more frequently cut themselves. The presence of depressive symptoms and alcohol use were identified as the most strongly associated risk factors.
