Age variations and population over-coverage: Is low mortality among migrants merely a data artefact?

Matthew Wallace et al.

Summary: The study confirms the authenticity of the migrant mortality advantage and rules out one of its primary mechanisms, population over-coverage. Through data analysis in Sweden, the researchers found a U-shaped difference in this advantage across different age groups.

Gendering health differences between nonmigrants and migrants by duration of stay in Italy

Eleonora Trappolini et al.

Summary: This study investigates the health differences between Italians and migrants in Italy, taking into account the gender dimension and how it interacts with the duration of stay to determine migrants' health. The findings show that recent migrant men and women have a health advantage that diminishes over time, and after a long duration of stay, health differences between migrants and nonmigrants are slightly more pronounced among women than among men. This study highlights the importance of considering both migrant status and gender when examining health disparities in adults.

Salmon bias effect as hypothesis of the lower mortality rates among immigrants in Italy

Anteo Di Napoli et al.

Summary: Immigrants have lower all-cause mortality rates compared to natives, which is partly explained by the healthy migrant effect and the underestimation of deaths due to the so-called salmon bias effect. Our study found that the salmon bias only partly explains the difference in mortality rates between immigrants and Italians.
