De novo genome assembly and in natura epigenomics reveal salinity-induced DNA methylation in the mangrove tree Bruguiera gymnorhiza

Matin Miryeganeh et al.

Summary: By studying the genome and epigenome of the mangrove Bruguiera gymnorhiza, it was found that high-salinity environments induced genome-wide DNA hypermethylation. The research provides new insights into the epigenome regulation of mangroves in harsh environments.

The Imaging of Guard Cells of thioglucosidase (tgg) Mutants of Arabidopsis Further Links Plant Chemical Defence Systems with Physical Defence Barriers

Ishita Ahuja et al.

Summary: The glucosinolate-myrosinase system plays a crucial role in Arabidopsis guard cells affecting the stomata and ultrastructure of guard cells. Mutants lacking myrosinase exhibit distinct features in guard cells and stomata complexes, suggesting a novel link between the defence system and physical barriers in plants.

Comparison of glucosinolate diversity in the crucifer tribe Cardamineae and the remaining order Brassicales highlights repetitive evolutionary loss and gain of biosynthetic steps

Niels Agerbirk et al.

Summary: This study reviewed the diversity of glucosinolates (GSLs) and analyzed phylogeny in the crucifer tribe Cardamineae as well as selected species from Brassicaceae and Resedaceae. The research found that the tribe Cardamineae contains a significant portion of the total known GSLs, with unique GSLs contributing to 19% of the conclusively identified GSLs. Intraspecific GSL polymorphism was observed in at least four species in the tribe, providing valuable insights into GSL biosynthesis and evolution.

A high-quality genome assembly of Morinda officinalis, a famous native southern herb in the Lingnan region of southern China

Jihua Wang et al.

Summary: Morinda officinalis, a medicinal and edible plant widely cultivated in southern China, had its high-quality chromosome-scale genome assembly using Nanopore single-molecule sequencing and Hi-C technology. The genome size was 484.85Mb with 27,698 protein-coding genes and underwent core eudicot gamma genome triplication events. Comparative genomic analysis showed no major structural variation and gene family analysis revealed significant expansions related to plant-pathogen interactions and sugar metabolism. This study provides valuable insights into M. officinalis genome evolution and active component biosynthesis for genetic improvement and molecular breeding.

Glucosinolate profile and Myrosinase gene expression are modulated upon Plasmodiophora brassicae infection in cabbage

Md. Abdul Kayum et al.

Summary: Clubroot is a devastating disease caused by Plasmodiophora brassicae in Brassicaceae, with the host plant's GSL profile modulating disease progression. Specific gene expression patterns and GSL profiles are influenced by pathogen infection, resulting in gall formation in susceptible lines. The roles of Myro and MBP genes in GSL hydrolysis during P. brassicae infection provide insights for developing clubroot-resistant cabbage lines.
