How Many Steps Per Day During the Early Postoperative Period are Associated With Patient-Reported Outcomes of Disability, Pain, and Opioid Use After Lumbar Spine Surgery?

Hiral Master et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of early postoperative walking on outcomes after lumbar spine surgery. The results showed that an additional 1000 steps per day after spine surgery was associated with significantly higher odds of achieving best outcome and not using opioids. It is suggested to recommend patients to walk at least 3500 steps per day during early postoperative counseling.
