Are Patient Expectations and Illness Perception Associated with Patient-reported Outcomes from Surgical Decompression in de Quervain's Tenosynovitis?

Julia Blackburn et al.

Summary: This study found that preoperative patient expectations and illness perceptions are associated with pain and functional outcomes after surgical treatment for de Quervain's tenosynovitis. More positive treatment expectations were linked to better patient-reported pain and function, while negative perceptions of illness duration were associated with worse outcomes. Addressing these factors could help patients make informed decisions about treatment.

Patient-reported outcomes and function after reinsertion of the triangular fibrocartilage complex by open surgery

R. Feitz et al.

Summary: The study involved 274 patients who underwent open repair of the TFCC between December 2013 and December 2018. Clinically significant improvements were reported in pain, function, and grip strength in 220 patients (80%) three and 12 months postoperatively. These data will help surgeons to make decisions about the outcomes of open repair of the TFCC and to counsel patients appropriately.

Robbert M. Wouters et al.

Summary: This study describes the principles, process, and results of creating the ICHOM standard set for hand and wrist conditions, with an international working group developing evidence-based outcome measures through systematic reviews and consensus-building. The standard set includes measurement tracks for thumb, finger, wrist, nerve, and severe hand trauma, with predefined outcome tools and time points for measurement, aiming to improve value-based healthcare for patients with hand and wrist conditions.
