Changing effect of the numerator-denominator bias in unlinked data on mortality differentials by education: evidence from Estonia, 2000-2015

Domantas Jasilionis et al.

Summary: This study highlights the discrepancy between census and death record information in reporting the education of the deceased and how it affects mortality inequality estimates. Results indicate a small bias in mortality estimates for the period 2000-2003, but a significant bias in the period 2012-2015, with overestimation in high education group and underestimation in middle education group. These biases result in distortions in range-type inequality measures, while Gini-type measures show closer agreement.

Joint effects of alcohol use, smoking and body mass index as an explanation for the alcohol harm paradox: causal mediation analysis of eight cohort studies

Sebastian Pena et al.

Summary: The study investigated the relationship between socio-economic status and alcohol-related mortality, as well as the joint effects of alcohol, smoking, and body mass index. The findings suggest that individuals with lower socio-economic status may be more vulnerable to the effects of alcohol and smoking on alcohol-related mortality.

Life expectancy in adulthood is falling for those without a BA degree, but as educational gaps have widened, racial gaps have narrowed

Anne Case et al.

Summary: A 4-year college degree has become increasingly crucial in today's society, with degree holders generally enjoying longer and more prosperous lives; the education gap continues to widen, while the gap between different races has diminished compared to differences within each racial group based on college education.
