Transient elastography correlated to four different histological fibrosis scores in children with liver disease

Ulrike Teufel-Schaefer et al.

Summary: The study investigated the predictive value of transient elastography (TE) for higher grade fibrosis in pediatric patients with hepatopathies, irrespective of the used histological scoring system. TE showed a good correlation to fibrosis severity and was able to distinguish between different fibrosis stages accurately. In contrast, the aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio (APRI) showed no correlation with fibrosis severity in children.

Summary: The study aimed to compare transient elastography (TE) and biopsy for the diagnosis of liver fibrosis in children with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). TE showed promise in diagnosing advanced fibrosis in CHB children aged 0-6 years.
