Wen Zhang et al.

Summary: Phylogenomics was applied to clarify the concept of rice species and identify rice germplasms, revealing 21 Oryza species and a 17% mislabeling rate of seed accessions. The study aims to support rice biodiversity by aiding in species identification and germplasm utilization.

Mitochondrial genome of the harmful algal bloom species Odontella regia (Mediophyceae, Bacillariophyta)

Yichao Wang et al.

Summary: Recent study determined complete mitochondrial genomes of two Bacillariophyta species, Odontella regia and Lithodesmium undulatum, isolated from Jiaozhou Bay, China. Phylogenetic analysis revealed complex evolutionary relationships within Mediophyceae, with O. regia showing less conservation compared to other species. Further research is needed to clarify detailed phylogenetic relationships in Bacillariophyta.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Thalassiosira profunda (Mediophyceae, Bacillariophyta)

Kuiyan Liu et al.

Summary: Thalassiosira is a diverse genus with many harmful algal species, but genome data for these species are limited. This study determined the complete mitochondrial genome of Thalassiosira profunda and revealed complex evolutionary relationships with species from a different family. Further mitochondrial genome studies of more species in related families are needed to fully understand the evolutionary relationships in the order of Thalassiosirales.
