Urinary biomarkers in bladder cancer: A review of the current landscape and future directions

Kenrick Ng et al.

Summary: This narrative review discusses established and emerging urinary biomarkers for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, highlighting the limitations of classical FDA-approved protein biomarkers. Advancements in epigenetic and genetic markers as well as extracellular vesicles have shown promise in enhancing sensitivity and specificity in bladder cancer diagnosis. The future focus will be on utilizing these markers in combination to create predictive signatures for everyday clinical practice.

Global, regional and national burden of bladder cancer and its attributable risk factors in 204 countries and territories, 1990-2019: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease study 2019

Saeid Safiri et al.

Summary: The study found significant variation in bladder cancer burden between countries from 1990 to 2019. While there was a global decrease in age-standardised death and DALY rates, some countries experienced an increase. Smoking and elevated fasting plasma glucose were identified as important risk factors that need to be addressed through prevention programs.
