Online and offline preconcentration techniques on paper-based analytical devices for ultrasensitive chemical and biochemical analysis: A review

Waleed Alahmad et al.

Summary: Microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (μPADs) have gained attention for their advantages in clinical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, and food safety assurance. However, they lack high sensitivity for detecting trace analytes compared to commercial instruments like mass spectrometry. To enhance sensitivity, a preconcentration step is required. This review focuses on techniques to separate and preconcentrate analytes on μPADs, along with challenges and future perspectives.

Drug preconcentration and direct quantification in biofluids using 3D-Printed paper cartridge

He Cheng et al.

Summary: A portable 3D-printed paper cartridge was developed for fast sample preconcentration and direct drugs quantitative detection in biofluids using a portable Raman spectrometer. The cartridge contained a paper tip with silver nanowires for preconcentration and SERS measurement, as well as a 3D-printed cartridge to improve detection. The cost of the cartridge was only one dollar. This technology allowed for quantitative detection of anticancer drugs in bovine serum or artificial urine in a quick and efficient manner.
