Enhancing volatile fatty acids production from waste activated sludge by a novel cation-exchange resin assistant strategy

Heliang Pang et al.

Summary: The study developed a novel strategy for enhancing volatile fatty acids production from waste activated sludge using cation-exchange resin assistant anaerobic fermentation. The proposed process conditions achieved significant sludge disintegration and volatile fatty acids yield. The reusability tests showed that NaCl solution was the best for cation-exchange resin regeneration, with the regenerated resin performing comparably to the original resin.

Economics analysis of food waste treatment in China and its influencing factors

Ting Chen et al.

Summary: This study examines the economic benefits of food waste treatment projects in China, finding limited economic benefits for facilities that rely on government subsidies. Factors such as regional location and processing techniques exert varying impacts on the economy of food waste treatment, highlighting the need to prioritize service population size and processing techniques in economic decision-making and management.

How does temperature regulate anaerobic digestion?

Erqi Nie et al.

Summary: Temperature plays a crucial role in anaerobic digestion by shaping microbial ecosystems and regulating stability performance. While previous studies have discussed microbial responses to temperature changes, there is still a gap in understanding the regulation of temperature gradient on microbial communities. Adapting microorganisms to extreme temperatures could open up possibilities for industrial applications and sanitation purposes.

Ferroferric oxide promotes metabolism in Anaerolineae other than microbial syntrophy in anaerobic methanogenesis of antibiotic fermentation residue

Chen Cai et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of Fe3O4 on anaerobic digestion of AFR and found that Fe3O4 addition led to a decrease in methane yield but a significant increase in methane production rate. Genomic analysis revealed that Fe3O4 altered the microbial community by selecting an unknown genus with metabolic capacity. Methanoculleus and Methanolinea were found to be the dominant contributors to hydrogenotrophic methanogenesis in the AFR digestion system.

Effect of co-digestion of tylosin fermentation dreg and food waste on anaerobic digestion performance

Ming Gao et al.

Summary: This study found that adding different proportions of food waste to tylosin fermentation dreg can significantly increase methane production, with pH, total volatile fatty acids, and acetic acid being the most important factors affecting cumulative methane production. Tylosin can be effectively removed through co-digestion, with a total removal rate of 68.2%-83.7%.

Investigation on microwave torrefaction: Parametric influence, TG-MS-FTIR analysis, and gasification performance

Beibei Yan et al.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of microwave torrefaction (MT) and conventional torrefaction (CT) on herb residue (HR), showing that MT is more efficient in removing bound water and generating gases. Moisture content was identified as the key factor affecting torrefaction and energy consumption, while MT-HR exhibited superior gasification performance.
