Novel strategy for microalgae cell disruption and wet lipid extraction by employing electro-Fenton process with sacrificial steel anode

Wanniarachchige Paramitha Sandani et al.

Summary: The Electro-Fenton process was studied as a potential cell disruption technique for recovery of lipids from wet biomass of the microalga Chlorella homosphaera. A maximum lipid yield of 19.99 +/- 1.33% was achieved at 40 min reaction time and 4.38 g/L biomass concentration. Biodiesel synthesized from lipids obtained via EFP conformed to the ASTM D6751-12 standard.

Biodiesel production from Custard apple seeds and Euglena Sanguinea using CaO nano-catalyst

S. Sivanesh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the production of biodiesel from Euglena Sanguinea microalgae and custard apple using nano CaO as a heterogeneous catalyst. Different solvents were used for oil extraction, and response surface methodology was employed to determine optimal process variables. Characterization of biodiesel was done using GC-MS, and kinetic studies suggested a pseudo-first order reaction for the optimized condition of algal oil and seed oil.

Phosphotungstic acid-modified zeolite imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) as an acid-base bifunctional heterogeneous catalyst for biodiesel production from microalgal lipids

Jun Cheng et al.

Summary: A novel bifunctional heterogeneous catalyst was synthesized by modifying ZIF-67 with phosphotungstic acid to provide more acid-base active sites for catalyzing esterification and transesterification for biodiesel production. The modified catalyst exhibited enhanced Lewis acid-base properties and improved recyclability, leading to a higher conversion efficiency of microalgal lipids to fatty acid methyl ester.
