Application of electrical treatment on Euglena gracilis for increasing paramylon production

Amino acid profile of the peel of three citrus species and its effect on the combination of amino acids and fatty acids Chlorella vulgaris

Summary: This study aimed to develop nutritionally enriched and sensorially well-accepted biscuits by incorporating spray-dried microencapsulated S. maxima biomass. Adding 20% of Spirulina biomass did not affect the sensory acceptance and purchase intent scores of the biscuits. The biscuits had 40% more proteins and could serve as a nutritional source of iron.

Mixotrophic cultivation of Thalassiosira pseudonana with pure and crude glycerol: Impact on lipid profile

Summary: This study found that mixotrophic cultivation of T. pseudonana resulted in almost double the lipid content compared to autotrophic cultivation, especially when using crude glycerol. Mixotrophic samples showed an increase in short-chain fatty acids (C14:0, myristic acid) and long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (C18:4; stearidonic acid), which are potentially useful for bio-jet fuels and nutritional purposes.

Effect of Light Intensity and Wavelength on Biomass Growth and Protein and Amino Acid Composition of Dunaliella salina

Summary: This study optimized the production of biomass, protein, amino acids, and carotenoids from Dunaliella salina using a two-stage cultivation approach with different LED light intensities. The results showed that under red LED light, the biomass productivity of D. salina increased significantly, along with an increase in protein concentration and productivity. This indicates that red light has a positive impact on the growth and nutritional yield of D. salina.

Summary: Dark pigmented algae on melting polar and alpine ice surfaces significantly reduce surface albedo of glaciers, accelerating melt rates. Physiological comparison of the filamentous Ancylonema nordenskioeldii and unicellular Mesotaenium berggrenii var. alaskanum revealed high tolerance to solar irradiation and similar lipid profiles, indicating physiological similarity but genetic distinctness.

Cultivation of microalgae in palm oil mill effluent (POME) for astaxanthin production and simultaneous phycoremediation

Summary: Haematococcus pluvialis exhibited better adaptability to higher concentrations of palm oil mill effluent (POME), leading to higher astaxanthin yield and reduced freshwater consumption for astaxanthin production. However, only moderate performance in phycoremediation was achieved. The study showed that POME from Sri Lankan palm oil mills has the potential to be utilized for large-scale production of microalgal astaxanthin.
