Anaerobic co-digestion of corn stover and chicken manure using continuous stirred tank reactor: The effect of biochar addition and urea pretreatment

Qiong Yu et al.

Summary: The study investigates the performance of biochar mediated anaerobic co-digestion of corn stover and chicken manure, showing that urea pretreatment and biochar addition can improve co-AD, with a synergistic effect under medium and high OLR conditions. The results reveal that urea pretreatment and biochar addition promoted the AD process by strengthening the buffer capacity system and improving the degradation of lignocellulosic biomass.

Methane Production from Propionate Enhanced by Met@Fe3O4 via Increasing Microbe-Material Attachment in a Direct Interspecies Electron-Transfer Process

Yu Su et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the methionine-modified Fe3O4 (Met@Fe3O4) significantly enhanced the attachment to bacteria and electron transfer efficiency, leading to a remarkable increase in methane production from propionate. This alternative method provided valuable insights for improving propionate degradation and energy recovery in anaerobic digestion systems.

Magnetite-contained biochar derived from fenton sludge modulated electron transfer of microorganisms in anaerobic digestion

Mingwei Wang et al.

Summary: A new magnetite-contained biochar was prepared using iron-rich Fenton sludge as raw material, with the transformation of amorphous iron oxides into magnetite at 400 degrees C of pyrolysis and preservation of redox quinone/hydroquinone moieties of biochar. This magnetic biochar exhibited high capacitance and excellent conductivity, leading to significantly enhanced methane production when supplemented into anaerobic digestion system, offering a new approach to recycle hazardous Fenton sludge.
