Promote lactic acid production from food waste fermentation using biogas slurry recirculation

Qiao Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that adding laboratorial biogas slurry or industrial biogas slurry can significantly promote the production of lactic acid from food waste fermentation, especially carbohydrates. Industrial biogas slurry performed better due to higher pH, more diverse microbial community, and more functional microorganisms. The optimal ratio of additive to feedstock is 0.2, achieving the highest lactic acid yield.

Effect of pH regulation mode on byproduct ethanol generated from the lactic acid fermentation of Sophora flavescens residues

Xiaoyu Ma et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the efficient production of lactic acid using Sophora flavescens residues through simultaneous saccharification and fermentation. Adjusting the pH value to 8.5 every 12 hours increased lactic acid yield and decreased ethanol byproduct concentration. Ethanol byproduct was found to mainly originate from the metabolic activity of ethanol-producing microorganisms rather than the heterofermentation of Lactobacillus.

Catalytic performance and deactivation mechanism of a one-step sulfonated carbon-based solid-acid catalyst in an esterification reaction

Bingxin Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the catalytic activity and deactivation mechanism of a carbon-based solid-acid catalyst in the esterification of oleic acid and methanol. It was found that the formation of sulfonic esters was the main reason for catalyst deactivation in the first batch, while leaching of sulfur was the main contributor in the subsequent batches. Reducing sulfur leaching and sulfonic ester formation by changing the addition method of methanol is an effective way to extend the catalyst's service life.

Effect of co-digestion of tylosin fermentation dreg and food waste on anaerobic digestion performance

Ming Gao et al.

Summary: This study found that adding different proportions of food waste to tylosin fermentation dreg can significantly increase methane production, with pH, total volatile fatty acids, and acetic acid being the most important factors affecting cumulative methane production. Tylosin can be effectively removed through co-digestion, with a total removal rate of 68.2%-83.7%.

Integrated production of optically pure L-lactic acid from paper mill sludge by simultaneous saccharification and co-fermentation (SSCF)

Jing Li et al.

Summary: The study showed that using paper mill sludge for cellulase production can be applied to lactic acid fermentation, yielding high purity of lactic acid with high productivity. It was also found that when using PMS as a substrate, corn steep liquor can substitute yeast extract as an inexpensive nutrient source.
