Adsorptive removal of cationic methylene blue and anionic Congo red dyes using wet-torrefied microalgal biochar: Equilibrium, kinetic and mechanism modeling

Kai Ling Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the adsorption behavior of cationic and anionic dyes onto wet-torrefied Chlorella sp. microalgal biochar. The Langmuir isotherm was found to be the best model fit, suggesting monolayer adsorption as the dominant process, with maximum adsorption capacities of 113.00 mg/g for MB and 164.35 mg/g for CR. The results indicate that utilizing wet-torrefied microalgal biochar as an effective adsorbent for toxic dye removal is feasible.

Selective adsorption of Congo red and Cu(II) from complex wastewater by core-shell structured magnetic carbon@zeolitic imidazolate frameworks-8 nanocomposites

Zikang Xiong et al.

Summary: Efficient and convenient removal of organic dyes and heavy metals from complex wastewater remains a challenge, but the novel adsorbent Fe3O4@Carbon@ZIF-8 has shown to be highly effective. Compared to other reported adsorbents, it exhibits significantly higher maximum adsorption capacities for CR and Cu(II). The adsorption mechanism involves electrostatic interaction, hydrogen bonding, pi-pi bonding, and ion exchange. Fe3O4@Carbon@ZIF-8 is suitable for selective adsorption of CR and Cu(II) in complex wastewater due to its good stability and reusability.

Performance of CO2 and Fe-modified lignin char on arsenic (V) removal from water

Jin Sun Cha et al.

Summary: Biochar produced from pyrolysis of Kraft lignin, modified with CO2 and impregnated with FeOx, showed improved physicochemical properties and arsenic (V) adsorption performance. Among the tested biochars, FeOx-LC-800 displayed the highest adsorption efficiency for arsenic (V) due to its highest Fe-O intensity and large surface area. The Langmuir adsorption model was suitable for fitting the adsorption curve, with a calculated theoretical equilibrium adsorption amount (q(e)) of 6.8 mg/g using a pseudo-second-order kinetic model.
