High performance biocatalyst based on β-D-galactosidase immobilized on mesoporous silica/titania/chitosan material

Natalia Carminatti Ricardi et al.

Summary: A new support consisting of mesoporous silica/titania with a chitosan coating was developed for immobilizing /9-D-galactosidase from Kluyveromyces lactis. The support showed high immobilization efficiency, maintained enzymatic activity, and exhibited excellent stability in both continuous flow and batch systems, making it suitable for food manufacturing applications.

The β-galactosidase immobilization protocol determines its performance as catalysts in the kinetically controlled synthesis of lactulose

Carlos Alberto Chaves Girao Neto et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the immobilization method significantly affects the performance and stability of beta-galactosidase in the synthesis of lactulose. Temperature and biocatalyst choice play a crucial role in the synthesis efficiency, with agarose and agarose coated with polyethylenimine showing better performance under suitable conditions. However, chitosan activated with glutaraldehyde performed relatively poorly in comparison.

Synthesis of magnetic nanoparticles functionalized with histidine and nickel to immobilize His-tagged enzymes using β-galactosidase as a model

Bruna Coelho de Andrade et al.

Summary: This study synthesized iron magnetic nanoparticles functionalized with histidine and nickel for the immobilization of His-tagged recombinant enzymes, particularly beta-galactosidase. The immobilized enzyme showed increased substrate affinity and thermal stability, leading to efficient lactose hydrolysis with high recovery rates. The nanoparticles demonstrated potential applications in oriented immobilization of other high-molecular-weight enzymes.

8-Galactosidase mediated synthesized nanosupport for the immobilization of same enzyme: Its stability and application in the hydrolysis of lactose

Azra Shafi et al.

Summary: β-Galactosidase was immobilized on modified nanosilver reduced graphene oxide (Ag@rGO) nanocomposite prepared by in vitro synthesis using same enzyme. The immobilized enzyme showed enhanced activity with an effectiveness factor (eta value) of 0.968, and retained 85% activity after repeated use. The enzyme displayed high activity even in the presence of inhibitory sugars, and effectively hydrolyzed lactose from whey. Additionally, the cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of Ag@rGO nanocomposite was assessed on human blood lymphocytes.
