Evaporation retardation by model tear-lipid films: The roles of film aging, compositions and interfacial rheological properties

Summary: A novel methodology was developed to assess evaporation through lipid-nanofilms in vitro, with comparisons made to human tear-lipid nanofilms. The study found differences in evaporative fluxes and rheology between lipid-nanofilms and human tear-lipid nanofilms. Additionally, the research discovered that evaporation through lipid nanofilms decreased with film thickness and aging, and that polar phospholipids enhanced evaporative resistance.
