Production and characterization of bacterial cellulose scaffold and its modification with hyaluronic acid and gelatin for glioblastoma cell culture

Semra Unal et al.

Summary: The study successfully obtained a novel hyaluronic acid/gelatin modified bacterial cellulose composite scaffold using in situ fermentation method, showing potential for in vitro 3D cancer cell culture. The results suggest that this scaffold may be used to predict treatment response of new therapeutics.

Facile size evaluation of cellulose nanofibrils adsorbed on polypropylene substrates using fluorescence microscopy

Satomi Tagawa et al.

Summary: A facile method based on fluorescence microscopy (FM) was proposed for evaluating the size of cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) prepared by aqueous counter collision (ACC). Single ACC-CNFs longer than 2 μm can be detected using FM, and their lengths estimated were in good agreement with FE-SEM results. The FM method also enables estimation of the widths of CNFs over 20 nm using a regression line as a correction formula.
