Comparison of Copper-crosslinked Carboxymethyl Cellulose Versus Biopolymer-based Hydrogels for Controlled Release of Fertilizer

Altaf H. Basta et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the hydrogel prepared from copper-crosslinked carboxymethyl cellulose as a controlled release system of fertilizer, showing high swelling capacity and sustained release rate, with a Fickian or quasi-Fickian diffusion mechanism for fertilizer release. The performance of the hydrogel was reflected in the nutrition value of onion planted in gel-treated soil.

Liquid crystal behavior of cellulose nanoparticles-ethyl cellulose composites: Preparation, characterization, and rheology

Altaf H. Basta et al.

Summary: This work focuses on evaluating the role of cellulose nanoparticles in ethyl cellulose composite for liquid crystal applications. Results showed that CNPs prepared with ammonium persulfate exhibited higher crystallinity compared to those prepared with sulfuric acid hydrolysis. Incorporating CNPs into EC led to a decrease in the critical concentration of EC, improving the performance of the composites.
