On the production cost of lignocellulose-degrading enzymes

Rafael G. Ferreira et al.

Summary: Lignocellulose is the most abundant renewable material on Earth, but the high production cost of enzymes degrading lignocellulose remains a major challenge for its utilization as raw material. By comparing the production costs of enzymes from different process designs, it is found that raw materials and capital-related costs are generally the main drivers of enzyme production cost, and production parameters play a significant role in the process economics of enzyme production.

Elucidation of microbial diversity and lignocellulolytic enzymes for the degradation of lignocellulosic biomass in the forest soils of Eastern and Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu, India

Meyyappan Geetha Valliammai et al.

Summary: This study evaluated physicochemical parameters and enzymatic activity in forest soil samples from different regions in Tamil Nadu, India, and used nanopore sequencing to analyze microbial communities. The results showed a positive correlation between soil enzymes and microbial abundance, with Firmicutes being more abundant in samples with higher lignocellulolytic enzyme activity. The presence of specific bacterial genera, such as Bacillus, was influenced by the variation in enzyme occurrence and nutrient availability in the soil samples.
