Evaluating the current status of protein kinase C (PKC)-protein kinase D (PKD) signalling axis as a novel therapeutic target in ovarian cancer

Komal Tyagi et al.

Summary: Ovarian cancer, particularly high grade serous ovarian cancer, remains a lethal gynaecological malignancy with high relapse rates despite advancements in targeted therapies and immunotherapies. The signaling cascade initiated by protein kinase C (PKC) and protein kinase D (PKD) regulates various cellular processes involved in tumorigenesis, making it a potential novel target in the treatment of this deadly pathology. Studies have also highlighted the significance of recent clinical trials and development of small molecule inhibitors targeting the PKC/PKD signaling axis in ovarian cancer.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Proteogenomic and metabolomic characterization of human glioblastoma

Liang-Bo Wang et al.

Summary: Understanding the molecular pathogenesis of glioblastoma is crucial for improving diagnosis and treatment. Integrated analysis of genomic, proteomic, and metabolomic data on treatment-naive glioblastomas has identified key phosphorylation events and potential targets for specific tumor alterations. Immune subtypes with distinct immune cell types were discovered, and specific histone acetylation patterns were correlated with these subtypes, providing insights for stratification of patients for more effective treatment.

Copy Number Variation and Rearrangements Assessment in Cancer: Comparison of Droplet Digital PCR with the Current Approaches

Vincenza Ylenia Cusenza et al.

Summary: Cytogenetic and molecular assessments play crucial roles in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Laboratory approaches like multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification and droplet digital PCR are exceptional tools for detecting genetic alterations accurately and sensitively in molecular oncology. Personalized medicine relies on the correct and reliable molecular characterization of diseases, influencing therapeutic choices.

PD-L1 recruits phospholipase C and enhances tumorigenicity of lung tumors harboring mutant forms of EGFR

Soma Ghosh et al.

Summary: The research indicates that tumors with EGFR mutations have a lower response to immunotherapy, the EGFR pathway is associated with high PD-L1 expression and can promote an aggressive phenotype, while anti-PD-L1 antibodies can inhibit PD-L1 functions.
