Rheology of rounded mammalian cells over continuous high-frequencies

Gotthold Flaeschner et al.

Summary: Understanding the viscoelastic properties of living cells and their relation to cell state and morphology remains challenging. Higher frequencies could elucidate the link between cellular and molecular properties. The new assay introduced in this study can measure cell mechanical response in the frequency range of approximately 1-40kHz, revealing an uncorrelated relationship between cell size and viscoelasticity.

EMT changes actin cortex rheology in a cell-cycle-dependent manner

Kamran Hosseini et al.

Summary: The study reveals that cancer cells change their actin cytoskeleton and mechanical properties, while the epithelial-mesenchymal transition affects the rheological properties of the actin cortex, leading to consistent trends in human cells of different tissue origins.

Crosstalk between mechanotransduction and metabolism

Patrizia Romani et al.

Summary: Mechanical forces play a crucial role in regulating cell function and behavior by modulating cell metabolism and impacting tissue mechanics. Recent evidence suggests that mechanical cues from the extracellular matrix and cell adhesion complexes influence metabolic pathways, highlighting the reciprocal crosstalk between cell mechanics and metabolism.
