Predictive Factors for Target Organ Injuries in Hypertensive Individuals

Manoel Paz Landim et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the relationship between blood pressure and clinical and biochemical parameters in the development of target organ damage in hypertensive patients. The results showed that predictive factors for target organ damage included age, microalbuminuria, diabetes, HDL-c, triglycerides, and carotid disease. Nocturnal blood pressure was correlated with LVH, while ambulatory blood pressure monitoring did not show a significant association with other target organ damage.

Summary: Metabolic syndrome requires polypharmacological treatment, however, complex treatment regimens often lead to drug-drug interactions and poor patient adherence. Multi-target approaches aim at reducing polypharmacology and improving efficacy.

Cardiac contractile dysfunction, during and following ischaemia, is attenuated by low-dose dietary fish oil in rats

Michael J. Macartney et al.

Summary: Supplementing rat diets with small doses of fish oil equivalent to regular fish consumption in the human diet can reduce ischemia-induced contractile dysfunction in the heart. These findings support the nutritional conditioning of the heart with DHA for ongoing cardioprotection.

Summary: The study showed that treatment with EET-A and ACEi improved survival rates in ACF TGR, but combined treatment did not significantly differ from single treatment regimens. Targeting the cytochrome P-450-dependent epoxygenase pathway of arachidonic acid metabolism may be considered for HF treatment.

Summary: The prevalence of cardiovascular disease in Italy is nearly double the global prevalence, with similar age-standardized estimates. However, mortality and morbidity rates from cardiovascular disease in Italy are lower than global estimates. Ischemic heart disease is the most significant burden of cardiovascular disease in Italy.
