Aerodynamics Effect of Holes in UAV Wings Modified for VTOL Capability

Laith S. Sawaqed et al.

Summary: This research explores the possibility of modifying the X8 Skywalker from a fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle into a convertiplane. Computational fluid dynamics and wind tunnel experiments were conducted to analyze the performance of different wing configurations. The results indicate that the proposed modifications can generate enough lift despite reducing the wing area, with the filleted hole configuration demonstrating less drag and turbulence effects at low angles of attack.

Parasitism and host social behaviour: a meta-analysis of insights derived from social network analysis

Lea Briard et al.

Summary: This study synthesized insights from empirical studies on the relationship between social networks and parasites, finding a positive effect of social behavior on parasite infection at the individual level, with the effect size nearly twice as large as that observed for group size in previous meta-analyses. Significant heterogeneity in effect sizes across studies was observed, but this pattern could not be explained.

Seasonal effects in gastrointestinal parasite prevalence, richness and intensity in vervet monkeys living in a semi-arid environment

R. Blersch et al.

Summary: This study revealed that prevalence of five genera of helminths varied in the vervet monkey population, while parasite richness remained relatively stable throughout the year, mainly driven by precipitation and maximum daily temperature. The structure in faecal egg counts indicated that egg shedding of certain parasites may serve as an indicator of individual infection levels. These findings provide insight into the seasonal effects of gastrointestinal parasites in vervet monkeys living in extreme environments.
