A cautionary tale in fitting galaxy rotation curves with Bayesian techniques: Does Newton's constant vary from galaxy to galaxy?

Pengfei Li et al.

Summary: The application of Bayesian techniques in astronomical data analysis faces challenges due to potential parameter degeneracies and uncertainties in error models. An analysis on rotation curves from the SPARC database shows that the inference of a variable G(N) is influenced by the combined effect of parameter degeneracies and uncertainties in error models.

New Relativistic Theory for Modified Newtonian Dynamics

Constantinos Skordis et al.

Summary: The proposed relativistic gravitational theory leads to a modified Newtonian dynamics paradigm that explains the observed universal galactic acceleration scale and related phenomena. It meets the phenomenological requirements and is consistent with the observed cosmic microwave background and matter power spectra on linear cosmological scales. The theory shows stability without ghost instabilities and the possibility of being embedded in a more fundamental theory.

The dependence of subhalo abundance matching on galaxy photometry and selection criteria

Richard Stiskalek et al.

Summary: Subhalo abundance matching (SHAM) is a popular technique for assigning galaxy mass or luminosity to haloes produced in N-body simulations. In this study, new parametrization for SHAM is introduced and the best-fitting SHAM parameters are derived as a function of various properties of the selection of the galaxy sample and photometric definition. The study finds strong evidence that the scatter in the galaxy-halo connection increases towards the faint end in optically selected samples, and SHAM parameters of optically and H-I-selected galaxies are mutually exclusive.

A massive blow for ACDM - the high redshift, mass, and collision velocity of the interacting galaxy cluster El Gordo contradicts concordance cosmology

Elena Asencio et al.

Summary: The research analyzed the formation and properties of the galaxy cluster El Gordo, and determined the probability of finding a similar cluster in a ΛCDM cosmology through simulations of turnaround pairs. The study results indicate that the properties of El Gordo and the fast collision between two individually rare massive clusters are unexpected, potentially revealing new cosmological theories.
