Explaining high braking indices of magnetars SGR 0501+4516 and 1E 2259+586 using the double magnetic-dipole model

Fang-Zhou Yan et al.

Summary: This paper attributes the high braking indices of two magnetars to the decrease in their inclination angles using a double magnetic-dipole model. It is found that the magnetic moment M-2 evolves towards alignment with the spin axis, causing the magnetic inclination angles of the magnetars to decrease. The study defines a ratio eta = M-2/M-1 to reflect the magnetization degree, showing that the values of eta of the two magnetars are significantly higher than that of a rotationally powered pulsar with a lower n value.

The dissipation of toroidal magnetic fields and spin-down evolution of young and strongly magnetized pulsars

Zhi Fu Gao et al.

Summary: Magnetars are pulsars powered mainly by superhigh magnetic fields and are associated with various high-energy phenomena. This study investigates the dissipation of magnetic fields, spin-down evolution, and the relationship between magnetization parameter and magnetic field in magnetar crust. Additionally, ongoing work focuses on explaining magnetar antiglitch events and revisiting the expression of braking index for future research.

Summary: Studies have shown that the radio emission in many pulsars exhibits quasi-periodic sudden changes, which are likely caused by Hall drift disrupting the magnetic field at the polar cap surface.
