Foreshock Cavities: Direct Transmission Through the Bow Shock

Summary: Global hybrid code simulations predict enhanced densities and magnetic field strengths in foreshock compressional boundaries and traveling foreshock cavities under near-radial IMF conditions. The simulations also show flow enhancements and decreased temperatures on these boundaries extending into the magnetosheath. Observations confirm the direct transmission of foreshock cavities into the magnetosheath, with perturbations diminishing rapidly upstream from the bow shock.
