Chamaeleon DANCe: Revisiting the stellar populations of Chamaeleon I and Chamaeleon II with Gaia-DR2 data

P. A. B. Galli et al.

Summary: This study uses the second data release of the Gaia space mission to expand the census of stars in the Chamaeleon clouds and revisit the properties of the stellar populations associated with Chamaeleon I and Chamaeleon II dark clouds. The research identifies 188 and 41 high-probability members in Cha I and Cha II, respectively, revealing differences in distance between the subgroups of Cha I and a higher proportion of disc-bearing stars in Cha II.

Bridging the Gap between Protoplanetary and Debris Disks: Separate Evolution of Millimeter and Micrometer-sized Dust

Arnaud Michel et al.

Summary: By studying 85 disks, we have proposed a new evolutionary scenario where radial drift in nonstructured disks during the Class II phase results in a rapid decrease in dust mass. Additionally, we have found possible evidence for long infrared protoplanetary disk timescales, consistent with overall slow disk evolution. The presence of dust traps in structured disks allows for the formation of planetesimal belts at large radii, which may explain the planetesimal belts observed in debris disks.

A Stellar Mass Dependence of Structured Disks: A Possible Link with Exoplanet Demographics

Nienke van der Marel et al.

Summary: The study reveals that structured disks retain high dust masses over time, while nonstructured disks see a decrease in dust mass. This suggests that dust mass evolution is primarily influenced by radial drift, but pressure bumps may prevent drift in certain cases. The findings also suggest a correlation between the occurrence of giant exoplanets and the fraction of structured disks, supporting an evolutionary scenario where the early formation of giant planets influences the dust evolution and observational appearance of disks.

A Dynamical Measurement of the Disk Mass in Elias 2-27

Benedetta Veronesi et al.

Summary: Recent ALMA observations of the protoplanetary disk around Elias 2-27 revealed a two-armed spiral structure, making it an ideal laboratory to investigate the role of self-gravity in early star formation. The dynamical estimate suggests that the disk mass is 17% of the star mass, indicating that the disk could be prone to gravitational instabilities.

Multiwavelength continuum sizes of protoplanetary discs: scaling relations and implications for grain growth and radial drift

Summary: We analyzed spatially resolved ALMA observations of 26 protoplanetary discs in the Lupus star-forming region at different wavelengths, revealing relationships between disc size, luminosity, and potential discrepancies with dust evolution models. Our forward modelling suggests that large grains may be the most favored explanation for the observed disc characteristics.

ALMA survey of Lupus class III stars: Early planetesimal belt formation and rapid disc dispersal

J. B. Lovell et al.

Summary: Observations with ALMA of 30 class III stars in the Lupus region revealed four circumstellar dust detections, with inferred dust masses 0.036-0.093 solar masses, significantly lower than previous measurements. Combining the survey with class II sources showed a gap in disc mass distribution for >0.7 solar mass Lupus stars, indicating rapid dispersal of mm-sized dust. The findings suggest that planetesimal belt formation can occur within approximately 2 Myr without the need for long-lived protoplanetary discs.
