Radio halos in a mass-selected sample of 75 galaxy clusters: I. Sample selection and data analysis

V Cuciti et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the properties of radio halos in galaxy clusters by selecting 75 clusters with deep radio observations from the Planck Sunyaev-Zel'dovich catalogue. By using archival Chandra X-ray data, the dynamical states of the clusters were analyzed, leading to the detection of several cluster-scale diffuse radio sources.

Radio halos in a mass-selected sample of 75 galaxy clusters: II. Statistical analysis

V Cuciti et al.

Summary: This study utilizes radio and X-ray data analysis to investigate the relationship between the radio properties of galaxy clusters and their mass and dynamical state. The findings show that radio halos are predominantly found in merging clusters and their radio power correlates with the mass of the host clusters. Additionally, cluster dynamics play a significant role in the radio luminosity and emissivity of radio halos.

Radio observations of the merging galaxy cluster system Abell 3391-Abell 3395

M. Brueggen et al.

Summary: Observations of the pre-merging system of galaxy clusters Abell 3391-Abell 3395 at a redshift of 0.053 reveal a projected separation of X-ray peaks of approximately 3.1 Mpc, with no diffuse radio emission detected in the X-ray bridge. This has implications for particle acceleration mechanisms in cosmological large-scale structure. Additionally, interesting radio sources around the cluster merger and noteworthy radio sources in the surrounding field have been identified.

Summary: The IRAS Revised Bright Galaxy Sample (RBGS) consists of galaxies with intensity greater than 5.24 Jy, most of which are dusty star-forming galaxies, with radio continuum and far-infrared luminosities proportional to their star formation rates. Observations with the MeerKAT array resulted in high resolution images with a resolution of approximately 7'''.5 arcsec.

The Effect of the OMT in Electromagnetic Simulations of MeerKAT Primary Beams

Mattieu S. de Villiers et al.

Summary: Full-wave electromagnetic simulation results for MeerKAT's antennas in L-band differed from field measurements due to unexpected pointing offsets and asymmetries in polarization patterns. Inclusion of wide-bandwidth OMT and waveguide in the simulation is critical to excite TE21 mode, leading to characteristic frequency-dependent asymmetries in the primary beams, distinct from manufacturing or collimation errors.

Summary: This study presents a catalog of 4195 optically confirmed Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) selected galaxy clusters detected by the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) in 13,211 deg(2) of sky. The clusters were selected using a multifrequency matched filter on 98 and 150 GHz maps and confirmed with deep, wide-area optical surveys. The clusters span a wide range of redshifts and include new discoveries, providing a valuable resource for future cosmological analyses and studying the evolution of galaxies in massive clusters.

LOFAR observations of galaxy clusters in HETDEX: Extraction and self-calibration of individual LOFAR targets

Summary: The study revealed the presence of diffuse radio emission in galaxy clusters, potentially associated with cosmic rays and magnetic fields. Numerous new instances of radio halos and relics were discovered in the HETDEX Spring Field, indicating a significant presence in the targeted clusters. Additionally, the integrated flux densities for the radio halos were computed to determine scaling relations for cluster mass and radio power, showing consistent results with previous works.

Summary: The MERGHERS survey is a planned project to study galaxy clusters with the MeerKAT observatory. A 16-hour pilot project was conducted to observe 13 clusters at 1.28GHz, resulting in a 70% detection rate of diffuse emission. The pilot study validates the effectiveness of MeerKAT for large cluster studies and provides new insights into the presence of relics and giant radio halos in these systems.

Jets from MRC 0600-399 bent by magnetic fields in the cluster Abell 3376

James O. Chibueze et al.

Summary: The study explored radio observations of the galaxy cluster Abell 3376, focusing on the second-brightest galaxy MRC 0600-399, where jets were observed bending at a contact discontinuity with downstream flattening of the spectral index, indicating cosmic-ray reacceleration. The research reveals the significant role of an ordered magnetic field at the discontinuity in affecting the direction of jets, with results consistent with high-resolution numerical simulations.

Low-frequency integrated radio spectra of diffuse, steep-spectrum sources in galaxy clusters: palaeontology with the MWA and ASKAP

S. W. Duchesne et al.

Summary: This study reports on the detection and follow-up of radio halos, relics, remnant radio galaxies, and other fossil radio plasmas in Southern Sky galaxy clusters using radio interferometers. The integrated spectra of these sources within a frequency range are characterized, and comparisons with literature samples are made. The low-frequency integrated spectral index of the detected cluster remnants and fossil sources is used to investigate possible links between their electron populations. The results suggest a consistency between relic and halo emission generated by seed electrons originating in fossil or remnant sources, although more research is needed to rule out other scenarios due to insufficient sample sizes.

MWA and ASKAP observations of atypical radio-halo-hosting galaxy clusters: Abell 141 and Abell 3404

S. W. Duchesne et al.

Summary: The study reports on the detection of a giant radio halo in the cluster Abell 3404 and confirms the observed radio halo in Abell 141. The radio halo powers are consistent with the current sample and scaling relations, but there are differences in morphology and correlation with X-ray brightness between the two clusters. The radio halo in Abell 3404 is classified as an ultra-steep-spectrum radio halo (USSRH) and represents a faint class of radio halos found in clusters undergoing weak mergers.
