Summary: Healthcare workers in Egypt and Saudi Arabia experienced high levels of depression, anxiety, stress, and inadequate sleeping during the COVID-19 pandemic, with factors such as female sex, age <=30 years, working in emergency and night shifts, excessive exposure to COVID-19 news, and lack of emotional support being associated with a higher likelihood of these psychological impacts. A cross-sectional study design limited the ability to differentiate between preexisting and emerging psychological symptoms.

Psychological impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on the university students in Egypt

Summary: University students in Egypt experienced increased levels of depression, anxiety and stress during the COVID-19 pandemic. Various factors such as being female, having contacts infected with COVID-19, preexisting chronic diseases, and lack of psychological support from families, community and universities were found to increase the risk of mental health issues among students. The study suggests that universities should provide tailored psychological services to mitigate the emotional impact on students during crises.

Summary: Healthcare workers worldwide have faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, including shortages of protective equipment and increased violence towards them. In Pakistan, as well as globally, the main instigating factors for violence against HCWs include mistrust in healthcare workers, hospital policies, and the death of patients. To prevent future incidents, it is essential for institutions, policymakers, media organizations, and law enforcement agencies to collaborate on public awareness campaigns to combat misconceptions and promote responsible journalism. Additionally, hospitals should implement measures such as de-escalation training and increased security, while law enforcement agencies should be trained in non-violent crowd management to handle peaceful protests by HCWs.
