Free vibration and buckling analyses of FG porous sandwich curved microbeams in thermal environment under magnetic field based on modified couple stress theory

Ehsan Arshid et al.

Summary: This study investigated the performance of porous sandwich structures with different numbers of layers, considering factors such as thermal environment effects, functionally graded materials, and carbon nanotube-reinforced composites. The results showed that increasing the central opening angle can reduce natural frequencies and critical buckling loads, increasing the porosity coefficient will decrease these values, but increasing the CNTs content will have the opposite effect.

Vibration analysis of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite microbeams

Omer Civalek et al.

Summary: This article investigates the free vibration behavior of CNTRC microbeams with CNTs distributed in a polymeric matrix using four different reinforcement patterns. Material properties and microstructure-dependent governing differential equations are derived based on the rule of mixture and various beam theories. The obtained vibration equation is solved using Navier's solution method, and the effects of length scale parameter, length/thickness ratio, volume fraction, and reinforcement pattern on frequencies are examined. It is observed that X-Beam has the highest frequencies, while O-Beam has the lowest ones, and the size effect is more pronounced when the thickness of the beam is close to the length scale parameter.

Isogeometric analysis for size-dependent nonlinear free vibration of graphene platelet reinforced laminated annular sector microplates

Chang Tao et al.

Summary: This study establishes the nonlinear free vibration equations for multilayer functionally graded graphene platelets-reinforced composite annular sector microplates using the principle of virtual work. By utilizing NURBS-based isogeometric analysis and a displacement control strategy, the linear natural frequencies and nonlinear-to-linear natural frequency ratios of the microplates are obtained synthetically. Parametric studies are conducted to investigate the influences of distribution pattern and weight fraction of graphene platelets, sector angle, and material length scale parameter on the vibrational behaviors of the microplates under different boundary conditions.

Elastic buckling and free vibration analysis of functionally graded Timoshenko beam with nonlocal strain gradient integral model

Yuan Tang et al.

Summary: This work investigates the elastic buckling and free vibration response of functionally graded Timoshenko beams using a nonlocal strain gradient integral model. By deriving governing equations and boundary conditions via Hamilton's principle and utilizing Laplace transform technique to solve integral-differential equations, explicit expressions for bending deflections, moments, cross-sectional rotation, and shear force are obtained with eight unknown constants. The nonlinear characteristic equations for determining buckling load and vibration frequency are explicitly derived, and the results are validated against existing literature.

Isogeometric nonlinear bending analysis of porous FG composite microplates with a central cutout modeled by the couple stress continuum quasi-3D plate theory

Rui Rao et al.

Summary: By utilizing the isogeometric finite element methodology, this study predicts the nonlinear flexural response of composite microplates with functionally graded porosity, incorporating couple stress small scale effect. A refined power-law function is used to consider porosity dependency and material gradient simultaneously. The influence of couple stress on the nonlinear bending curves of porous FG composite microplates is demonstrated, showing a significant impact on the through-thickness porosity distribution schemes. The presence of a cutout at the center of composite microplates alters the slope of their nonlinear flexural curve.

Shuohui Yin et al.

Summary: An efficient and accurate numerical approach for static bending and free vibration analyses of microstructure-dependent Bernoulli-Euler beams is presented in this paper, which considers strain gradient, couple stress, and velocity gradient effects simultaneously and uses only one material parameter for each gradient effect. The results show the high performance and accuracy of the numerical approach, which effectively fulfills the higher continuity requirements in the microstructure-dependent Bernoulli-Euler beam formulation. The applicability of the approach is demonstrated through analyses of cantilever and clamped microbeams.
