Establishment and characterization of a continuous cell line from heart of Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus and its susceptibility to tilapia lake virus

Manoj Kumar Yadav et al.

Summary: In this study, a continuous cell line (OnH) derived from Oreochromis niloticus heart tissue was developed and utilized to investigate susceptibility to tilapia lake virus (TiLV). The OnH cells showed optimal growth conditions and high susceptibility to TiLV, making them valuable for viral isolation and genetic manipulation studies. The research contributes to understanding the replication mechanism of TiLV in this candidate species.

Infection of Tilapia tilapinevirus in Mozambique Tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus), a Globally Vulnerable Fish Species

Pitchaporn Waiyamitra et al.

Summary: This study experimentally challenged Mozambique tilapia with a virulent strain of TiLV and found that high concentration TiLV caused skin issues, enteritis, and a mortality rate of 77.78% in this fish species. Severe histopathological changes were observed in the infected fish, confirming the susceptibility of Mozambique tilapia to TiLV infection.

Detection of Tilapia Lake Virus (TiLV) in Healthy Fish from the Pre-Existing Disease Environment Using Different RT-PCR Methods

Patharapol Piamsomboon et al.

Summary: The study revealed the presence of TiLV in healthy wild tilapia and farmed barramundi that shared water supply, indicating a close proximity environment for the virus. However, it is inconclusive whether these asymptomatic fish are actually infected with the disease.
