n-p Heterojunction of TiO2-NiO core-shell structure for efficient hydrogen generation and lignin photoreforming

Heng Zhao et al.

Summary: Biomass photoreforming for hydrogen evolution is a promising strategy to address energy crisis and environmental pollution, generating sustainable H-2 and value-added bioproducts. This study successfully overcomes the incompact interface between n-type and p-type semiconductors by designing an ultrafine n-p heterojunction TiO2-NiO core-shell structure. The photocatalysts exhibit excellent performance for water splitting and lignin photoreforming, showing the highest hydrogen generation with cogeneration of H-2 and CH4 and production of fatty acids.
