Recent developments of doped g-C3N4 photocatalysts for the degradation of organic pollutants

Xiaolu Liu et al.

Summary: Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has high thermal stability and a moderate band gap, but its performance is limited by issues like insufficient absorption of visible light. Element doping is an effective strategy to enhance its photocatalytic properties and improve performance.

Hierarchical Sheet-on-Sheet ZnTi-LDHs/g-C3N4 composites with enhanced photocatalytic activity prepared by mechanical mixing

Luyao Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the structure, morphology, interfacial contact, and photocatalytic properties of ZnTi-LDHs/g-C3N4 composites prepared by different methods. The experimental results show that the ZnTi-LDHs/g-C3N4 composites prepared by the mechanical mixing method exhibit better photocatalytic activity due to the hierarchical sheet-on-sheet contact between g-C3N4 and ZnTi-LDHs, which efficiently promotes photo-induced charge separation. This study demonstrates a feasible way for further design and synthesis of photocatalysts with a 2D/2D heterojunction with sheet-on-sheet contact.

Synthesis of sulfated zirconium supported MCM-41 composite with high-rate adsorption of methylene blue and excellent heterogeneous catalyst

Amr A. Ibrahim et al.

Summary: Zirconia-based mesoporous MCM-41 loaded with varying amounts of sulfate were successfully prepared and characterized using various methods. The increase in sulfate content led to an increase in lattice cell parameter and the samples exhibited a large surface area with uniform pore diameter distribution. The materials showed good catalytic activity and high adsorption capacity for methylene blue.

Constructing BiOBr/CoOx/g-C3N4 Z-scheme photocatalyst with CoOx as both redox mediator and cocatalyst for phenol degradation

Yihao Shang et al.

Summary: Constructing Z-scheme heterostructure photocatalysts, such as the BiOBr/CoOx/g-C3N4 catalyst studied here, can significantly enhance the efficiency of degrading organic pollutants through improved charge transfer and separation. The enhanced photocatalytic performance is attributed to the broad photoabsorption region, efficient charge transfer, and multiple redox potentials of electrons and holes in the BiOBr/CoOx/g-C3N4 heterostructures.

Extractive desulfurization of dibenzothiophene from normal octane using deep eutectic solvents as extracting agent

Mehran Rezaee et al.

Summary: This study focused on the extractive desulfurization using Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES) as a new method for removing organosulfurs from hydrocarbon fuels. Two new DESs were synthesized and their structures were confirmed. Experimental results determined the optimal extraction temperature and the effect of fuel to DES mass ratio on extraction efficiency. Thermodynamic modeling using the Non Random Two Liquid (NRTL) activity coefficient model was implemented to predict ternary phase equilibrium data with high accuracy.

Oil spill degradation using floating magnetic simulated solar light-driven nano photocatalysts of Fe3O4-ZnO supported on lightweight minerals

Marziyeh Saflou et al.

Summary: In this study, a visible light-driven Fe3O4-ZnO nano photocatalyst with magnetic properties was impregnated on floating minerals such as Perlite, and its activity in benzene degradation was investigated. The Fe3O4-ZnO photocatalyst on Perlite showed the highest benzene removal rate and the lowest band-gap energy. After four runs, a 23% decrease in activity was observed.
