Effect of magnetic ion substitution on the structure and temperature-dependent magnetic properties of strontium hexaferrite

Summary: Rare earth substituted strontium hexaferrite powders were synthesized through a molten salt route, showing improved magnetic properties in the substituted samples, with the samarium-doped sample exhibiting the highest magnetic measurements at room temperature. The temperature-dependent magnetic properties of strontium ferrites also showed potential for applications in magnetic field sensors as saturation magnetization and remanence increased with decreasing temperature.

This research highlights the possibility of using hexagonal ferrites as alternatives to rare earth-based permanent magnets.

XRD analysis confirmed the formation of a single-phase orthorhombic ABO3 structure, with increased crystallite size and decreased lattice parameter, dislocation density, and apparent density with doping. Porosity increased with doping, and various spectroscopy techniques revealed structural and compositional changes in the materials.

Summary: Nanoferrites of Co0.5Mg0.5-xCuxFe2O4 (x=0.0, 0.2 and 0.4) were prepared by sol-gel auto-combustion method and exhibited single-phase spinel cubic crystal structure with good ferrimagnetic behavior. The DC resistivity decreased with increasing copper content, while VSM study confirmed their isotropic nature forming single domains ferrimagnetic particles. The average crystallite sizes ranged from 38.8 to 49.9 nm.
