An insight into phenomenal optical non-linearities arising from synergistic relationship between selected BODIPYs and noble metal nanoparticles

Shiju Edappadikkunnummal et al.

Summary: The study reports a significant enhancement in non-linear optical activity and exceptional optical limiting action of an organic-inorganic hybrid system based on BODIPY and Au/Ag nanoparticles, showing improved NLA and OL properties compared to the parent compounds. The enhancement in NLO property is stronger in the hybrid system with Au nanoparticles due to resonant charge transfer and intense local field effect, while both parent compounds and nanohybrids exhibit negative non-linearity. The enhanced NLA and OL property of the hybrid system guarantees successful usage of the strategy in OL applications.

Design of BODIPY dyes as triplet photosensitizers: electronic properties tailored for solar energy conversion, photoredox catalysis and photodynamic therapy

Elena Bassan et al.

Summary: BODIPY dyes can be turned into efficient triplet photosensitizers with strong absorption in the visible region through proper design strategies such as halogenation of the dye skeleton, donor-acceptor dyads, and BODIPY dimers. These design strategies offer numerous advantages in terms of optical and electrochemical properties, with potential applications ranging from energy conversion to medicine.

Summary: The study describes the preparation and characterization of dipicolylamine-based cis-dichlorido zinc(ii) complexes, with potential photocytotoxicity for cancer cells. The designed zinc-BODIPY hybrids show enhanced aqueous solubility, mito-DNA targeting propensity, and organelle-selective apoptotic photocytotoxicity at nanomolar concentrations.
